Who is Behind this Garbage I'm Reading?

I'm a lucky man. I get to travel alot. I have a family that loves me - my beautiful (smoking hot MILF of a) wife, and three great kids, aged 15, 11 (girls) & 6 (the boy).  My career has been less of a plan and more of a destiny. I'm an extremly loyal friend and employee, and am very passionate about something when it gets its hooks into me. This has led me to three career phases, ones that I feel found me more than were part of a master plan.

My first career had me traveling as a tour guide - I worked on motorcoaches (i.e. a nicer than average bus) taking groups of older folks through the Canadian Rockies and Alaska. This was my summer job. Winters found me either working on cruise ships, or backpacking independently throughout Latin America (learning Spanish in Guatemala in the process). On a swing through South America, after having been robbed in Argentina, I found myself at Iguazu Falls which defines the border of Argentina & Brazil. I immediately fell in love with the music, people, culture and language of Brazil. I returned three more times, learning Portuguese, and spending Brazilian Carnival in the Northeast city of Recife.

My second career came as a result of meeting my wife and realizing that I needed to settle down and not be traveling as much as my tour/cruise days required. Again, more of a function of fate, I ended up at a small Internet startup as the 10th employee. Over the next eight years, I experienced the thrill of a successful IPO, the lows of the Internet bubble burst and having to layoff employees, and then the rebuilding of the company. Finally, after achieving all I felt I could, I left the company.

After a six month experiment in real estate (a disaster - I hated it), I ran into one of my old bosses at the Internet company who was now a big wig at the company I work at now. She offered me a job, and I took it, not really understanding the space in which I was to be an expert. Fortunately, my luck continued as that this Fortune 500 company bought my Internet company (of which I still owned lots of stock) for an extraordinarily inflated price. This gave my family and I some financial security, which reduces stress on all fronts - especially the marriage front where money always produces the most marital conflict (followed closely by husbands wanting more sex that wives are willing to provide...just kidding..kinda).

Having been in my current gig for four years, I've become somewhat of an outspoken evangelist on a certain aspect of my company's business. For three years, I was pretty much ignored as that the risks I warned the company of hadn't been felt by the business during that time. However, in the last year, due to certain market conditions, my passion, knowledge and ability to tell the story of the aforementioned risks has landed me in a new role where I no longer have management responsibility, but I do get to travel a lot. Thus, I have a foundation for this blog.

MAY 2013 UPDATE: I'm now unemployed, and have been for the past 7 months. Work has been hard to find, and I left my last company with a very bitter taste in my mouth. I'm excited about finding a new opportunity, but it's been difficult.
